Additive Manufacturer Boosts Safety Culture With Slice Tools
Midwest Prototyping is in the business of bringing ideas into the real world. With extensive prototyping, 3-D printing, and advanced manufacturing technology, this additive manufacturer works on a huge variety of projects, from manufacturing components to fully functional models.
As such, workers’ cutting needs change all the time. Some trim different additive manufactured and cast urethane parts every day, while others work in more traditional areas like shipping and receiving. According to Manufacturing Engineer Judah Balli, the main safety concern in terms of lacerations is, “the amount of force and the speed of usage”. One wrong move can lead to a costly and painful injury.
We use almost all Slice tools, especially box cutters, micro-ceramic blades, [and] scalpels… Workers like them a lot. All the employees know Slice.
Midwest was not contending with a lot of injuries, but Balli says they proactively, “deployed more stringent safety practices… so no one is ever harmed.” Part of this focus on safety was to introduce Slice® tools.
In Balli’s words, “We use almost all Slice tools, especially box cutters, micro-ceramic blades, [and] scalpels… Workers like them a lot. All the employees know Slice.” While Midwest had a few minor injuries to begin with, Balli is satisfied that Slice adds to their strong safety culture. “We can say,” he notes, “that the cuts on our safety gloves are less with the Slice products.” This is the kind of report we love to hear and we’re excited about keeping Midwest employees safe now and in the future.
