Utility Scrapers

Why Choose a Slice® Ceramic Scraper?

Most hand scraper tools are made with thin, sharp metal blades. This can pose a few problems. Firstly, excessive sharpness leads to injuries. Unfortunately, even other companies who make ceramic scrapers have imitated metal blades and used an excessively sharp grind.

Slice scrapers use Slice blades, with their proprietary finger-friendly® grind. This means that our blades scrape effectively but are safer to touch and handle than other blades and they hold their edge up to 11 times longer than steel.

Slice blades are also made from 100 percent zirconium oxide, an extremely hard material that is non-sparking, non-conductive, non-magnetic, chemically inert and never rusts. Our blades are safe for scraping high-temperature materials and don’t leave metal scrape marks behind.

As with all Slice tools, our scraper tools are ergonomically designed, with features such as soft-touch hand grips and SureScrape™ to reduce hand strain.

What is SureScrape?

Occupational Health and Safety officers are always looking for ways to prevent accidents, which is why auto-retractable tools are popular. This retraction style cuts down on tools left lying around with their blades exposed (accidents waiting to happen).

When it comes to hand scraper tools, though, auto-retraction poses a problem. If the user has to push and hold a slider to expose the blade, then scrape with a pushing motion at the same time, any resistance against the blade causes kickback. The force of that kickback transfers straight to the user’s thumb—a repetitive strain nightmare. For this reason, there are few (if any) other spring-loaded auto-retractable utility blade scrapers on the market.

Slice developed SureScrape as a way to reduce thumb strain and design a hand scraper that is auto-retractable and ergonomically friendly. SureScrape absorbs the force of resistance against the blade so the user doesn’t have to. At the same time, SureScrape releases as soon as the user lets go of the slider, allowing the hand scraper tool to be completely auto-retractable. This new technology is another example of Slice looking at design with fresh eyes to create safe, innovative tools.

Where Is a Utility Blade Scraper Used?

This type of hand tool is used in all kinds of manufacturing, DIY, and home settings. Slice ceramic scrapers are recommended for removing adhesives from smooth surfaces, such as stickers from glass and scraping off mildew, rust, or paint in home and industrial settings. They’re ideal for smoothing down vinyl decals on vehicles or wall surfaces. Anywhere you might use an overly sharp utility blade scraper, consider a safer Slice alternative instead.

How Do I Change the Scraper Blade?

To remove your 10526 or 10528 Slice blade from our scrapers, push the slider as far forward as you can to fully expose the blade. You’ll notice a tab at the front of the slider, which is engraved with the image of a lock. Push that tab down so that it can slide under the grey handle and continue to push the slider forward as far as it will go. The blade should now be fully exposed and easy to remove.

After removing the old blade, line up your replacement blade with the notch on the orange or green blade holder and pull the slider back all the way so the blade is no longer exposed. Keep in mind that Slice blades last up to 11 times longer than steel blades, so you’ll be changing your blade a lot less often. Slice blades are also 100 percent recyclable where facilities exist.
