Our blades last longer than metal because they're made of harder material: 100 percent zirconium oxide. On the Mohs scale of hardness, zirconium oxide is harder than steel by several factors.
In general, once a blade is too dull it must be discarded. Our extremely hard ceramic blades retain their edge much longer than metal, which dulls quite quickly. How much longer will our blades retain their edge? According to an independent third-party test performed by the Cutlery and Allied Trades Association (CATRA) in December 2014, Slice ceramic blades last an average of 11.2 times longer than steel blades.
This means that every time you replace a Slice ceramic blade, you have already replaced an equivalent metal blade eleven times. Many of Slice's blades are double-edged as well which gives them twice the longevity. Slice ceramic blades' ability to retain sharpness gives them a much better value than traditional metal blades.
